TICKFORD RACING – RANDLE TO RACE AT PHILLIP ISLAND
11 August, 2021
Tickford Racing young gun Thomas Randle will make his third race appearance of 2021 at the Phillip Island SuperSprint, driving the No. 55 Castrol Racing Ford Mustang in a wild card entry. Randle has made two appearances in the Castrol Racing Ford this season at The Bend SuperSprint and Darwin Triple Crown, impressing with three top 11 finishes across those events. The 25-year old was scheduled to race at the Perth SuperNight as his third wild card event of 2021, but following the cancellation of this year’s race in Western Australia, Tickford Racing has elected to enter Randle when Supercars returns to Phillip Island in late October.
Coincidentally, Randle turned his first laps in a main game Supercar at Phillip Island in 2019, completing laps at the category’s preseason test aboard the Ford Mustang which he and Lee Holdsworth later shared in that year’s Enduro Cup. Randle also made an impression at the circuit a year earlier, where he drove a Tickford-enhanced road going Ford Mustang to the outright win at the Harrop Ultimate Street Car Invitational in 2018.
“I have some really nice memories from Phillip Island, so I’m very excited to be able to compete in the Castrol Racing Ford Mustang there in October,” Randle said. “It’s easily one of the best tracks in Australia and one of the best tracks in the world, it’s great that Supercars is headed back and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I drove my first laps in a Ford Mustang Supercar at the test day there in 2019, which is a really special moment in my career, so it’s cool to come back and race there this year. We’ve had some strong results in the two rounds we’ve had thus far this year in the Castrol Racing Mustang, and we’re definitely aiming to continue that when we get back on track. It’s a shame we won’t be racing at Perth this year, I was really looking forward to racing under the lights in WA, but I’m definitely looking forward to hitting the track at Phillip Island and having a good crack.”
Randle will join regular Tickford Racing drivers Jack Le Brocq, Cam Waters, and James Courtney at the event, which is set to be the ninth of the 2021 Supercars season. Ahead of his promotion to a full-time seat in 2022, Randle will race again with Tickford at the 2021 Bathurst 1000, co-driving one of its three entries in Australia’s Great Race.
The Phillip Island SuperSprint takes place October 23-24 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
