Round 6 - Townsville Pre-Brief

The Supercars Championship heads to North Queensland for this weekend’s NTI Townville 500. With its hybrid street circuit layout, Reid Park always delivers spectacular racing.

It’s a race weekend our drivers and team look forward to because of its great weather during the cold Melbourne Winter. The track is renowned for its challenging layout, combining fast straights and technical corners across its 2.86 kilometers. With two 250km races to be held across the July 5-7 weekend, we will see a return to longer races with compulsory pit stops after lap five, with each entry required to take on 100L of fuel and conduct a tyre change.

Cam Waters, currently 6th in the Championship said;
“It’s always great to go to Townville this time of year, the weathers nice. Looking to move forward after a tough Darwin weekend. There is a bit of rain around which should be interesting and spice things up. I’m excited!”

Thomas Randle, currently 14th in the Championship said;
“I’m looking forward to heading to Townville, it’s always a great event up there. 2 x 250km races, the strategy is key, as it’s hard on the tyres. Hopefully we have really strong cars so Cam and I can get some good points, wins and podiums. We had really good car speed there last year so hopefully we can fight for some good finishes in the races.”

Townville is Round 3 of the Dunlop Super 2 Series. Brad Vaughan is 7th in the championship followed by recently announced Wildcard driver Lochie Dalton in 8th and Rylan Gray in 13th position are all looking to move up in the championship standings this weekend.

It’s also the first round of the Toyota 86 series for Charlie Nash, who is looking for a good result straight out of the gate in his first ever Toyota 86 race.
