Saturday was a good day at the office for Tickford Racing.
Townsville saw the return of refueling, where strategy is always key to dominating the demanding 2.8km in North Queensland circuit.
Cam Waters set a blistering lap in the Top Ten Shootout claiming his 5th Townsville pole and 4th of the season, with a lap 0.3123 seconds quicker than the next best Mostert.
Thomas Randle had his best qualifying session of the year landing third in the shootout.
Race one brought epic racing, position changes and sun showers, with Waters emerging victorious in the 250km race passing Mostert to secure his second win of the season and third in Townsville.
Randle was delayed by a right rear wheel issue in the pit stop and had battles with Mostert, Brown and Payne on track to finish the day in 5th.
Action on track starts again at 9:30am for qualifying followed by the top ten shootout.
“What a sick day that was. Second in qualifying, got it done in the shootout to get pole. Had an awesome start, car was amazing on tyres. It was a sick race, so much fun and awesome to get the win”. – Cam Waters.
“Bit disappointed we didn’t get on the podium because we were battling in the top two – three for pretty much the whole race. Stoked for Cam and the guys forgetting the win because it was tough in Darwin. It’s a really awesome way to bounce back and so close to a podium. Finished fifth and helped Chaz blow his tyres off which ultimately helped Cam. Roll on tomorrow”. – Thomas Randle

Two action packed races saw Charlie Nash finish 11th and 9th. Nash has moved up the grid every race making for an exciting third and final day on Sunday.
“Went a lot better today compared to Friday. Felt strong in both races and worked my way up the order. Race one had a lot of crashes, I got a few scratches but I managed to stay out of them. Got a ripper start in Race two and fought off Fabian Coulthard. Got another pass in making up another place just before the safety car. Excited for Sunday”. – Charlie Nash
