Iconic Castrol Livery for Sandown 500

Tickford Racing is excited to unveil a truly iconic Castrol livery for the #55 Castrol Ford Mustang, driven by Thomas Randle, for the Sandown 500 in Melbourne this weekend. The car, also piloted by co-driver Tyler Everingham, will sport the legendary Castrol colours made famous by the Castrol TOM’s Supra in Japan’s Super GT Series.

The instantly recognisable paint scheme became a hallmark of Castrol’s racing colours during the 1990s, featured on cars that competed in World Rally, touring cars, and sportscars. It also gained global popularity through its inclusion in the early Gran Turismo PlayStation games.

This retro scheme has seen a resurgence this year, with Brad Keselowski featuring it on his RFK Racing NASCAR at Darlington in May and the Castrol MEM Rally Team using it in the British Rally Championship, both achieving race wins with the livery.

Randle and Everingham will compete in the two Supercars endurance races at Sandown and Bathurst, sporting this classic design. Tickford Racing and the #55 Castrol Mustang have had a strong build-up to the endurance season, securing pole position at Symmons Plains Raceway and a podium finish at Sydney Motorsport Park in July. Randle currently sits eighth in the Supercars Championship with four rounds remaining.

The Sandown 500 kicks off with practice sessions on Friday, followed by Qualifying and the Top 10 Shootout on Saturday, culminating in the 500km, two-driver race on Sunday.

Quotes:

Thomas Randle, Driver of the #55 Castrol Racing Ford Mustang:

“We are super proud to be unveiling this classic Castrol livery on our Ford Mustang for the Sandown 500 this weekend. This year marks 125 years of Castrol globally, so we thought it fitting to run one of the most famous Castrol liveries of all time. Like many, I have fond memories of playing Gran Turismo on PlayStation, and the Castrol TOM’s livery is one of the first that comes to mind.

“The design looked fantastic on Brad Keselowski’s Ford Mustang NASCAR this year, and I reckon it looks just as good on the Tickford Mustang Supercar. Hopefully, Tyler and I can replicate his race-winning performance for Castrol and the Tickford fans.

“The Sandown 500 is such a critical event—500 kilometres and 300 points up for grabs. You need everything to go right to win that race.”

Jan Willink, Brand and Product Manager, Castrol Australia and New Zealand:

“Castrol is proud to continue its 125-year celebrations with a timeless livery that celebrates Castrol’s sustained involvement and success in motorsport globally. Whether fans of motorsport, gaming, or both, the Castrol TOM’s livery is instantly recognisable across generations.

“With Castrol celebrating 125 years globally, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on an iconic part of history while looking forward by reimagining it on the Gen3 Castrol Racing Tickford Mustang. We hope fans love the look as much as we do!”
