Tickford Racing mourns the loss of Wayne Cattach, a visionary leader and the first CEO of V8 Supercars. Wayne played an instrumental role in shaping the sport into what it is today, leaving a legacy that will be remembered by all who had the privilege to work with him.
Rod Nash reflects on Wayne’s influence: “When I entered Supercars in 1998, transitioning from Speedway as a privateer, Wayne was invaluable. He helped new participants navigate the complex three-tier licensing system, which was a major step into the world of motorsport. Under Wayne’s leadership, the 1999 Bathurst event saw an incredible 55-car entry list, including both seasoned pros and newcomers like myself. This feat is a testament to Wayne’s energy, vision, and dedication to growing the sport.”
Wayne was not just a leader in name but in action. He was instrumental in the creation of Supercars as we know it, working closely with Tony Cochrane to execute the vision and pathways that have brought the sport to its current stature. His ability to communicate and work with all team owners, even amidst the challenging dynamics of the time, was a hallmark of his leadership.
Wayne’s contributions extended beyond just operational management; he was a true gentleman who always had time for everyone. His legacy is one of innovation, dedication, and a deep passion for motorsport. We at Tickford Racing will honour Wayne’s memory at the upcoming Tasmania SuperSprint. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
