Bathurst 1000 - Day Four

MAIN GAME

Race day at Mount Panorama delivered solid results for the team, with Car #6 finishing in P4 and Car #55 crossing the line in P11. The race ran almost entirely under green, with just one brief safety car, making it the shortest Bathurst 1000 in history. Despite some challenges, both cars managed to finish strong. With eyes now set on the Gold Coast Street Circuit, taking place from October 25-27th, the team faces a tight turnaround but is eager to get back on track.

Race Highlights

Car #6 had a strong start with Cam Waters moving up to third early on, though a small mistake at Turn 1 cost some track position. As Cam commented:
"The start was okay, got up to 3rd, made a stupid mistake into Turn 1. Pretty dirty with myself, but Moff is doing awesome out there."

Car #55 started from P19, and Thomas Randle and Tyler Everingham managed to work their way through the field. Randle shared his thoughts during the race:
"Moff is currently in 7th, effectively P8, and we're about P12. We've just pitted and Tyler is doing a double stint here. It's been a good start for us, we've moved up the order a bit from starting dead last in 19th. We've kept our nose clean so far, so hopefully we can keep ticking the laps over and try to make some more speed and end up in that top 10."

Later in the race, James Moffat commented on the heat and tricky conditions as the Cam faced an issue with his cool suit system early on. "Pretty hot and slick, I think the race is starting to come to us though. If you said on Thursday or Friday that we’d go green the whole way, I would’ve said you’re crazy. A safety car would be handy for us, we’re trying to scramble track position from the incident earlier in the day. The cool suit issue isn’t fixed but it was alright for me, I am more concerned for Cam."

Post-Race Comments

Thomas Randle — Car #55

“Uh, well, that's that. That's the 2024 Bathurst 1000 done. We started 19th, Tyler and I worked our way up to finish P11. And to be honest, I think that's all we pretty much had. Unfortunately, couldn't finish in the top 10, which is a bit gutting, but came home with a straight car. And we're still in the top eight in the championship.

Tyler Everingham — Car #55

It was quite a good day in the Castrol #55 Mustang. I got to do a double stint in the middle, It felt fairly comfortable, and just had a few little errors in my second stint, which I think cost us a little bit.”

James Moffat — Car #6

Obviously not what we came here for, but fourth and lead Mustang. The way that race panned out is probably as good as we could have hoped for. I think the team did a great job, executed the strategy as well as we could. Pit stops were clean, our driver changes were solid, and Cam drove so well at the end there with no cool suit and no brakes. P4 is all we had.”

Simon Brookhouse — Tickford CEO

“Ah, look a really good weekend for the team. Fantastic result yesterday from the Super2 point of view, first and second of the round, which is great. Really sensational for Rylan, 17, youngest to do what he's done. You know, we had a great chance today with Cam starting on second on the grid and a few things didn't go in our favour, but all in all, we toughed it out all day and to finish 4th with Car #6, and for Car #55 to finish 11th was an awesome effort driving up from 19th.
We were consistent all day and had the pace, just the three cars were a bit too quick for us today. The real positive we took out was that there was no damage to the cars. The team work was fantastic and we're still second in the championship, which is a great result.”

TOYOTA 86 SERIES

Charlie concluded his weekend at Mount Panorama with a P17 finish in Race Three of the Toyota 86 Series. Despite the race being heavily interrupted by a safety car, which limited the amount of green-flag racing, Charlie managed to make up several positions, showing solid racecraft under challenging conditions.

While the interruptions hindered a more aggressive charge through the field, his ability to gain spots is a positive sign of the pace and consistency he's been developing throughout the season. Attention now turns to the final round of the series at the Gold Coast Street Circuit, running from October 25-27th.
