Friday’s action at the Adelaide 500 saw the team take on Practice 2 and a short yet eventful qualifying session for Race 23. With a red flag cutting qualifying short, both drivers secured strong positions, setting the stage for tomorrow’s Top Ten Shootout and the first race of the weekend.
In Practice 2, Cam Waters finished in P2, showing promising pace, while Thomas Randle crossed the line in P13 as he continued fine-tuning his car. Qualifying brought standout results, with Cam locking in P2 and Thomas close behind in P3, ensuring both Tickford Racing Mustangs are well-placed heading into the Shootout tomorrow.
Cam reflected on the unusual qualifying session: “It was a pretty weird one. I thought they would restart, but with the challenge of fixing the walls quickly, it didn’t happen. We were lucky to scrape through, so it’s really good for Tickford. It’s great to get another practice session tomorrow to work on the car and get more comfortable. You’ve got to be precise around here—just a little error can go a long way.”
He also shared some light-hearted thoughts, adding: “I’ve got a bit of speedway FOMO after watching the action from the infield last night. Adelaide 500 has done an awesome job with the speedway track, and I’m hoping to get out there next year.”
Thomas echoed similar sentiments about the shortened qualifying session: “It was strange; we thought they would resume, but with all the wall damage, it made sense. Thankfully, I got a second lap in after a kerb strike on my first. It’s great to have a banker and ensure a spot in the Shootout. The team did a great job, and now it’s about building from here.” He added: “We struggled in Practice 1 and tried something different in Practice 2 which split us in different directions. By the end, the car was feeling better, but we still have a bit of work to do tomorrow to get everything dialled in.”
With both drivers well-placed on the grid, the team remains focused on extracting more pace in tomorrow’s sessions and pushing for a strong result in the Top Ten Shootout and Race 23.

Day 2 in Adelaide featured two crucial qualifying sessions to set the grid for this weekend’s races. The team showed solid pace throughout the day, with all three drivers positioning well for Race 1 and Race 2.
In Qualifying for Race 1, Rylan Gray led the Tickford trio, securing P6, followed by Lochie Dalton in P8 and Brad Vaughan in P9. For Qualifying for Race 2, Rylan stepped up to P5, Brad improved to P7, while Lochie claimed P12 after a challenging session that still holds potential for improvement come race day.
Reflecting on his day, Rylan Gray expressed optimism, saying, “It was a strong day, but there’s still a bit of work to do before the race. I’m looking forward to having a good crack tomorrow.”
Lochie Dalton experienced a mixed day but remained positive about the races ahead. Reflecting on Qualifying 1, he shared: “We didn’t quite get our programme sorted with the reds. It wasn’t terrible, but the disrupted session made things tricky. Still, it’s not the end of the world.” On Qualifying 2, he added: “The start of the session was good, and things were looking promising, but I just didn’t put it together. Eyes are forward to the race now; we’ve got to move forward and keep it clean.”
With two competitive grids set, the team is focused on refining their race strategies and unlocking the potential to deliver strong results across the weekend.
