With a sixth place finish in Sunday’s Race 32 at the Newcastle 500, Chaz Mostert (No. 55 Superheap Auto Ford Mustang) led Tickford Racing home to close out the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season.

Mostert was followed closely home in eighth by Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang), who scored provisional pole in Sunday morning’s group qualifying and started from the front row for Sunday’s race, but lost out on a potential podium when a Lap 25 Safety Car bunched up the field. Needing to take on more fuel than those around him on his second stop, Waters lost several spots on his second stop and ultimately came home with his 19th top ten of the season.

Will Davison (No. 23 Millwaukee Racing Ford Mustang) was also negatively affected by the Lap 25 Safety Car, however his crew used strategy to move him up to a 13th place finish after starting from 20th.

Lee Holdsworth’s (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang) Race 32 was over before it began, when after starting ninth, Holdsworth was involved in a Turn 1 altercation that tore most of the right front corner out of his No. 5 Mustang. Holdsworth came to the pits twice to undergo repairs, before ultimately finishing 23rd and 10 laps down.

The 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship has come to a close, with all four of Tickford Racing’s full-time drivers finishing in the top 10 of the championship. The team will return to its Campbellfield workshop to begin preparations for the 2020 Supercars season, which kicks off at the Adelaide 500, February 20-23.

“A pretty shitty way to end the year, and disappointing to drop a position in the championship and not have a shot at climbing up to eighth. I’m really proud of the team, The Bottle-O Racing Team, and the whole of Tickford Racing I think have done a fantastic job to get four cars in the top ten. I don’t think that any team has ever achieved that before. Massive credit to them, and thanks for the effort, and thanks to our fans for supporting us through the year. “Not a bad day, obviously to be quickest in qualifying was cool, I gave it all in the Shootout and managed second, and in the race we rolled the dice with strategy, we did the opposite to what we did yesterday, and the Safety Car killed it. We salvaged P8, which is okay, I guess. We probably would have been on for third or fourth if that Safety Car didn’t come, but we’ve got a fast car and we finished the year off with plenty of pace. I’m really excited for next year, and I can’t thank all our sponsors and my crew for the year. They dug deep, and we bounced back after a tough 2018.”

“Tough slog, we just didn’t quite have the pace this weekend. Honestly I think the strategy got us there in the end, to P6. It’s good to get a good bank of points and finish off the year fifth in the championship. It’s pretty good to get a top five in the championship, but it was a bit up and down. The consistency hurt us a bit, and some driver mistakes through the year also sucked, but it’s awesome to still be top five in the championship and finish the year off strong.”

“Just a very difficult weekend, no real positives out of it unfortunately. We’re scratching our heads over some weird issues in the car, but now that it’s the offseason I’m sure we’ll find something. Our race was actually going better than yesterday, I thought the strategy was looking really good until that Safety Car. It looked like we were certainly going to be well in the top 10 if it weren’t for that Safety Car. It’s costly, but we fought on, kept the car straight, and finished the year off, and certainly we can build on that for next year. Thanks to the team for a great year, we ended up eighth in the points, so I think that’s all in all a great result. To have all four cars in the ten is great as well. ”

“It was a tough race for us, but ends a really strong season for the team. It’s been a great rebounding year from everyone, and to finish with four cars in the top ten of the championship is fantastic. No doubt we want to be higher up still, so we’ll be working hard in the offseason and taking those steps to get us closer to the front when we hit the track in Adelaide in February.”

Collecting his fifth race podium of 2019 on Sunday, Thomas Randle (No. 5 Skye Sands Ford Falcon FG X) took home third place in Race 14, the overall round at Newcastle, and the 2019 Dunlop Super2 Series season. Starting from fourth, Randle picked up third off the start of the race, and held position throughout the 21-lap race.

Like the main game category, the 2020 Super2 season begins in Adelaide in February.

“We’ve come away with third in the championship, so I’ve just got to thank everyone at Tickford Racing for giving me a really good car. I think we struggled a little bit for race pace this weekend. Our qualifying speed was pretty good, especially yesterday when we got pole position, that was nice, nice to get that for the guys. I’m not sure what’s going on next year, but it’s been one hell of a year. Getting the opportunity with the enduros as well, the wild card at Tailem Bend, it’s been a lot of mileage, and everything a race driver dreams of.”
