RACING – CARL COX CELEBRITY ESERIES
14 May, 2020
Tickford Racing will enter a Ford Mustang in next week’s Supercars Celebrity eSeries race, with DJ Carl Cox, among the world’s highest profile DJs, set to trade in his vinyl discs for a steering wheel on Monday, May 18 for the special edition virtual race around Mount Panorama at Bathurst.
Carl Cox, a British DJ who spends his summers in Melbourne, first came in touch with the Tickford family in late 2017 when Tickford’s vehicle enhancement business upgraded his Ford Mustang with its SV77 Bathurst package. Cox added another Tickford Mustang to his collection earlier this month when he picked up a newly-built Tickford Trans-Am Mustang, and in 2019 his own motorsport division, Carl Cox Motorsport, became a partner of Tickford Racing aboard Cameron Waters’ No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Supercars Celebrity eSeries next week,” said Cox, who will have support from Tickford Racing in his preparations. “Like most people I’ve spent a lot of time at home in recent weeks. I’ve been playing a lot of my music at home but it will certainly be great to do something different and get to race with so many other big names in sport and entertainment.”
Carl Cox Motorsport is predominantly involved in motorcycle and side car racing, and Carl himself has experience in drag racing, competing in the IHRA PRO MOD Series in the 400 Thunder category, coincidentally in a dragster based on a Ford Mustang. The music icon expects a much different challenge, however, when he takes the wheel of a Supercar on iRacing, the simulation program utilised by the Supercars eSeries.
“Much like music, racing and cars are in my blood, so while this will be a very different kind of racing than I am used to, I am so excited to get going. I’ve loved driving my Tickford Mustangs I have at home, and I don’t think they’d let me drive one of their real Mustang Supercars so this might be as close as I can get to the real thing and I cannot wait.”
Tickford Racing CEO and Team Principal echoed Cox’s excitement in joining the Supercars Celebrity eSeries, which will feature a field including sporting stars, off road racers, and Supercars team executives battling it out on Australia’s premier racing circuit.
“Carl has been involved with the company for a few years now and is always a pleasure to have around, so when the celebrity eSeries concept came about he was the first person to spring to mind for us,” Edwards said. “He’s very much a racer so we’re thrilled to help him have a crack in a virtual Supercar. Monday should be pretty entertaining and we’re looking forward to seeing the Carl Cox Motorsport Mustang out on track!”
The Supercars Celebrity eSeries from Mount Panorama will be broadcast live at 7:00 p.m. AEST on Monday, May 18. Coverage of the celebrity race can be found on Fox Sports 506 immediately following Supercars Sidetracked, and will also be shown on Sky Sports NZ and Supercars’ Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube pages.
