Courtney to steer Opposite Lock Racing Mustang

TICKFORD RACING – OPPOSITE LOCK PARTNERS CAR 5
3 March, 2022

Former Supercars champion James Courtney will debut new colours on his No. 5 Ford Mustang to kick off the 2022 Supercars Championship, as he and Tickford Racing welcome Opposite Lock as the naming rights partner aboard Courtney’s No. 5 Ford Mustang. The 4WD Accessories chain comes aboard the team in the lead up to the Sydney SuperNight, taking place this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, just a short drive from Courtney’s childhood home of Emu Plains in Sydney’s west.

The new arrangement comes as an extension of Tickford’s relationship with Opposite Lock’s parent company, Bapcor, which has recently expanded its partnership with Tickford utilising its Autobarn and Chicane Tools brands, featuring on the team’s cars and crew for the second consecutive year.

Capped with a determined recovery drive to seventh in the Bathurst 1000 Courtney finished the 2021 season 11th in the Supercars drivers’ championship, on the back of 14 top 10 finishes in his first full season with the squad – including a podium at Sydney Motorsport Park. Eager to improve on last year’s achievements, Courtney is delighted to welcome Opposite Lock aboard his No. 5 Mustang ahead of the 2022 season opener.

“It’s great to be back getting ready for a new season, and fantastic to have Opposite Lock joining the team on the No. 5 Mustang,” Courtney said. “On the race track we try and keep it on the black stuff, but I enjoy going off road with the kids away from the track so it’s great to have the support of a team that’s passionate about four-wheel driving. I’m really looking forward to this one, obviously a new season is always exciting, but I feel really settled in with the team at the moment. We had a positive test day last week which is a good boost of confidence heading into the first race of the year. The car looks great, and we’ll do our best to make the team at Opposite Lock proud this weekend.”

Opposite Lock National Manager Robert Stella expressed his excitement for the new partnership on the eve of the opening round of the 2022 Supercars Championship campaign.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Tickford Racing and James Courtney ahead of the new Supercars season,” Stella said. “Teaming up with a winning team in Tickford and a champion in James is a great opportunity for our brand. Tickford has a great relationship with our sibling brands in Autobarn and Chicane, so we’re very happy to join the family and be a part of the team and kicking off the 2022 season in the best way possible. The Opposite Lock Racing looks fantastic, and we can’t wait to watch James pedal it hard on track this weekend.”

The Sydney SuperNight kicks off the 13-round 2022 Supercars Championship this weekend, March 4-6 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
